The Berlin Wall: Webquest
It is the fall of 1961. You work for an international magazine based in the neutral country of Switzerland. The Berlin Wall has recently been constructed. Both the East and the West are using the Wall as a propaganda tool. What is the truth about the Berlin Wall? Are there differing views on the purposes of the Berlin Wall? Your editor has assigned you and three other colleagues to investigate the crisis in Berlin regarding the construction of the Berlin Wall. Each member of your team is to focus on a specific group involved in and affected by the construction of the Wall and then interview them. The 4 categories of people to be interviewed include political and/or governmental figures along with ordinary citizens of both sides. Using these sources, your team will compose an accurate, non-biased journalistic account of the Berlin Wall.

In your groups, read through each of the instructions very carefully and complete the assignment. This is to be turned in at the close of class today.
Scholastic Interactive: Rebuilding Iraq
This Scholastic and MSNBC web activity will allow you to explore the current issues with rebuilding Iraq.
Simulation: Be a Baggage Screener
This simulation will allow you to experience a shift as a baggage screener and see for yourself the challenges facing even the most basic efforts of today's airport security. For two minutes you are in charge of screening carry-on luggage. Your job is to look for suspicious objects, weapons, or anything you think may be dangerous. Be careful, but take too long with one bag and you'll hear it from all those airline passengers waiting to catch their flights. You will be graded for your performance at the end of your shift. Try doing another shift. And another. Do you become more or less effective in your screening?
